Two well-known local Football Clubs are creating a Football Partnership for the benefit of the Knaresborough District.
Knaresborough Town FC and Knaresborough Celtic FC are delighted to announce that from the 1st July, they will form a Partnership to effectively create a Hub for football development in the local community, which will represent all levels of the game.
Discussions have been ongoing between the two Clubs for months following a successful joint activity where young footballers from Knaresborough Celtic were mascots at games at Knaresborough Town’s Manse Lane ground. This was well received by members of both Clubs, and visiting teams, and it led to positive discussions about how the two Clubs could benefit the local community by working closely together on a whole range of footballing issues.
The idea of the Hub is to promote increased interaction between the two Clubs both on and off the pitch. This will include creating opportunities for Coaches to share ideas, giving players the chance to use the joint facilities, hosting social events whilst sharing resources with regards to grounds equipment, refereeing and volunteers. In the longer term there could be joint commercial activities.
On the playing front, the two Clubs have agreed to create a third Open-Age team under the colours of Knaresborough Celtic, with the majority of games played at Thistle Hill. It is hoped the Hub will give young footballers that want to transition to adult football as many opportunities as possible so that local players in the Knaresborough District do not feel the need to look beyond Knaresborough for their football. This will give all players involved with the Hub, a chance to play football at the highest level in the town as a pathway will be created to achieve that. The Hub also enjoys the benefit of Knaresborough Celtic being a key stakeholder in the King James’s School floodlit 3G facility.
Knaresborough Town provide semi-professional football as their first team plays in the Northern Counties East League, whilst their reserve team plays in the West Yorkshire League. The newly proposed third team is expected to play initially in the Harrogate and District League.
Knaresborough Celtic have over 250 young footballers at the Club, including a Girls’ team, plus a Veterans team.
The Hub will be inclusive and future developments could lead to more Girls teams, a Women’s team and disabled football.
Knaresborough Town Chairman, Peter Plews said ‘We are excited about establishing a community link between the Clubs. Not only can the young footballers and their families come and enjoy games at Manse Lane, our players and coaches can interact in the local football community. The partnership aims to provide a pathway for players to continue to play football in Knaresborough beyond Youth Football. We aim to make that compelling and attractive.’
Matt Wood, Chairman of Knaresborough Celtic commented ‘The opportunities the link creates are fantastic. Sharing knowledge, resources and facilities will bring the Clubs closer together and will create a real football hub for the local community, somewhere to enjoy playing, watching or getting involved in other aspects of the game’.
