about knaresborough fc

Knaresborough Celtic Junior Football Club is a community club, which exists to provide a safe and fun environment for children of all ages from Knaresborough and the surrounding villages to learn and participate in organised football.

Founded in 1995, we operate on a completely voluntary basis and are run by enthusiastic parents. Our core values are to ensure that the social aspects of team sports are highlighted as much as the technical elements of football and that football is an inclusive game appropriate for all children.

We have an established infrastructure in place to ensure continuity through all age groups and we run teams in organised Leagues from Under-8 through to Under-17 inclusively. We also have a Nursery section which provides coaching for children from as young as four years old before graduation to the Under-8's. In addition, we have Girls teams from Age 10 through to 16.
Furthermore, we also have a senior team in the Harrogate and District Saturday league. All age groups are run by Team Managers and Assistant Managers who have attended and passed the appropriate FA Qualification requirements. This includes not just coaching but also First Aid and Child Protection courses. Additionally, all age groups have a Parents Representative and anyone connected with the club - players (and their parents), coaches, league officials - are required to adhere to a published Code of Conduct.
Knaresborough Celtic FC actively contributes to the community through a variety of activities, not least of all our Schools Liaison Programme, in which we have guided all local primary schools to FA Charter School accreditation and run several competitions on both a season-wide and one-off basis.

Presidents cup date set for June 20th

The much anticipated Presidents Cup will take place this year on June 20th at the swimming pool fields.

The Presidents cup brings together the current young footballers and the Under 8′s for a fun and exciting football gala.

The annual event is a favourite in the Knaresborough Celtic diary and is a wonderful opportunity for the youngsters to wear the famous green and white hoops.

President Ramsay Beattie will oversee proceedings starting at 10am with an expected finishing time of 12 noon. Snacks and light refreshments will be available after at Park Place Social Club.

Every play will also receive a medal for their efforts through the season.

We look forward to seeing MANY hoops taking part

Leeds Building Society donates £1‚000 to Knaresborough Celtic Under 15s Football Club

Leeds Building Society has donated £1‚000 to sponsor the Knaresborough Celtic Under 15s team and was delighted to present Brian De Vere, Knaresborough Celtic Under 15s Manager, with the cheque for this amount at the team′s semi final with Harrogate Railway on Sunday 15th February.

As a result of this donation, Leeds Building Society has entered into a two year sponsorship agreement for the Under 15s team to carry the Society′s logo on the front of the players shirts.

Leeds Building Society Chief Executive Ian Ward said, ”I was delighted to attend the recent match between Knaresborough Celtic Under 15s and Harrogate Railway and present the £1000 cheque to the team′s manager Brian De Vere. It was also great to be part of the official team photograph, with our logo prominently displayed on the shirts of all the team members.”

The £1000 donation from Leeds Building Society has also gone towards the completion of the club’s Thistle Hill project.

Knaresborough Celtic Under 15s manager Brian De Vere said, ”We are very grateful for the generous financial support that Leeds Building Society has provided as without this it would be very difficult to find the necessary funding needed.

”The clubs numbers have grown to over 350 in the 13 years that we have been operating, so it was vital that we were able to acquire land on the outskirts of Knaresborough at Thistle Hill. These fields have now been sown and the pavilion and changing facilities have been developed. We are hoping they will be open for games at the latter end of this year or the beginning of next. We can then offer the children proper changing areas and showers instead of playing on the various school fields across the town, most of which do not benefit from any changing facilities at all.

”We were very pleased that Ian Ward was able to attend our recent home match with Harrogate Railway, so he could join the team for their official team photograph and present us with the £1‚000 cheque.“

The FA Charter Standard

We have accreditation from the FA to Charter Standard Community Club level, which is the highest level possible and confirms that our club has been audited by the FA and is reviewed on an on-going basis. In 2005 and 2007, we were awarded the status of Charter standard Community Club of the Year and also in 2005, North Yorkshire Sports Club of the Year.

Community Club of the Year 2005

Knaresborough Celtic achieved countywide recognition when presented with the Community Club of the Year Award at the North Yorkshire Sports Awards Event at Ampleforth Abbey on 10th April 2005. Sports Clubs from all over North Yorkshire were nominated for this Award in the very first year of the Award’s existence. Nominations were received on behalf of Cricket, Rugby, Golf, Bowls, Swimming, Karate, Pony Trekking, etc as well as Football Clubs.

Commenting on the Knaresborough Celtic nomination Rebecca Skinner, Sports Development Officer at North Yorkshire Sport, spoke of the Club’s development achievements in 2004 which included obtaining the FA Charter Standard Community Club Status, developing girl’s football and entering three age groups in a local league and starting its own open age football team. Recognition was also given by Rebecca to the Club’s level of volunteers and coaches and the rapid growth by the Club over the last 10 years.

Pictured above is the Club Chairman, Alex Degier with the trophy, together with Celtic Club Members, Ramsay Beattie (Head Coach), Andrew Wright (Development Officer) and Brian McGeough (Schools Liaison Officer) after the presentation at Ampleforth. Further recognition for the Club came by way of nomination for North Yorkshire Club Coach of the Year for Ramsay Beattie and North Yorkshire Sports volunteer of the Year for Andrew Wright. Both are seen holding their nomination certificates.

Last week representatives from the Club went to say thank you to their players within all primary schools in Knaresborough and to celebrate the success with them.
